Elecro-magnetics, laser guidance systems, and … a splash of pink? For those of us ancients who date back to the eighties (or beyond), the dream of a hoverboard from Back to the Future went beyond adolescent fantasies of flying, past the brightly-colored board and to a vision of sleek design and liberating technology which we could ride into the future (or at least to school). And now, here it is. The most surprising part may be, in fact, how unsurprised we are to see this real and working, truly-hovering skateboard that once seemed to us to defy all reasonable laws of physics. Hovering via electromagnets, the key innovation is the laser-guided stabilization system that keeps it floating in one place rather than tilting one way, tipping another or flying off entirely … a definite upgrade from those childhood hovercraft toys that were always impossible to remote control correctly. While not a direct duplicate of the movie classic version, the zig-zag pattern and use of pink and other atrociously 1980s-era colors clearly makes this a direct homage to the original – but perhaps the next version can look a little more timeless. Imagine someone rolling out what looks like a blueprint … only the buildings begin to literally pop off the page, showing you like never before what the structure will look like before it is even built. There is no way to describe how amazing this architectural innovation is – you have to see it to believe it (video below)! Forget the physical: you can now generate high-speed, life-like, … Click Here to Read More »»

Not Photoshopped: Real 3D Vases Look Like 2D Digital Fakes
by okesoft on 25. Jul, 2010 in Uncategorized
Rub your eyes and take a second look: these are no fakes, much as they may look like abstract drawings of vases. Discarded plastic black-and-white cut-offs are air-welded together with black or white welds, shaped together to make unique pieces that play tricks on the mind (particularly against a blank white background). Phil Cuttance (photos by Petr Krejci) has tested the same technique with tables and chairs, but somehow the three sizes of vase are the most convincing creations. Still not sure you believe these are real? Seeing the work-in-progress photos showing the process step by step might really help: Hand-assembled and with rough and variable weld joints, these objects look like they were created in Photoshop – or perhaps SketchUp, where you can intentionally set a black-and-white color scheme as well as a ‘loose drawing’ look. Keep Going – Check out this Great Related Dornob Design: These Spy-vs-Spy-Style Black & White Vases are The Bomb OK, the pun … it just could not be avoided. Apologies. Still, the vase concept by Mike Boylan is simply clever – if a bit cartoonish, like something straight out of a vintage animated Road Runner and Wiley Coyote sketch … … or a pacifist variant on the classic Spy vs. Spy comic strips, in which the Black and White agents warred it out with weapons matching their color(less)-themed… Click Here to Read More »»
Cooking A La Carte: 4 Modular Mobile Kitchen Mini-Islands
by okesoft on 24. Jul, 2010 in Uncategorized
A place for everything and everything in its place – at least within each of these mobile mini-islands on wheels, that is. The portable kitchenette units themselves, well, they can be configuring in any number of creative ways and to suit any cooking style. At their intersections, slot-specific shelves can be set per the name – A La Carte – for additional storage, preperation or decoration space – suited to hold anything from food scraps to fruit or even potted plants. There is nothing new about modular kitchen design, but the combined flexibility and custom functionality of each part of this series is uniquely clever. The individual elements serve a standard purpose, but how they relate to one another is up to the person who plans their positions . Keep Going – Check out this Great Related Dornob Design: Modular Modernism: Space-Saving Kitchen Cabinet System At first glance, these kitchen cabinets and drawers by Michel Cornu look appealing but simple and modern – black and silver storage spaces hung from the wall. Closer inspection reveals that these are part of dynamic space-saving interior design system that maximizes function through movable wall units. Tucked between layers of sliding cabinetry, the essentials cooking can be found hidde… Click Here to Read More »»
Robotic Brew: Android-Based Musical Coffee Machine Idea
by okesoft on 24. Jul, 2010 in Uncategorized
Non-morning people will appreciate this double-dose wake-up call: a jolt of java mixed with your favorite tunes to rise and shine with. Android-based technology scans the packets you put in, tell you about the tastes, smells and origins of the beans – and can be set to play whatever music you want based on the kind of coffee you brew. Designed by In-oh Yoo & Bong-yup Song for Metatrend Institute , this technology may be a bit ahead of its time – but not too far. It requires an (ideally continuous) internet connection to download the information to your digital coffee maker, and music as well unless you add your own mobile device into the mix. Aside from the clever potential for cross-branding your favorite brands and brews, there is something to be said for the association of sound, smell and taste tied up in this device that builds lasting connections between all three to reinforce your ritual wake-up routine. Whether we need another multi-functional box is one question, but as remixes of basic appliances go it is great to see someone attempt to combine elements that play on multiple senses at the same time. Keep Going – Check out this Great Related Dornob Design: Stylish Coffee Color Selector for a Perfect Brew How do you take your coffee? Better question: how do you quantify that? For most of us, measuring out the milk or cream we add isn’t trivial unless we are using pre-packaged (and consequently wasteful) packets of creamer. Instead of guesstimating each time, this coffee cup has a stylish built-in color palette you can use to see the consistency of your favorite added milk product alongside e… Click Here to Read More »»
If the pros can do it, why can’t I?
by okesoft on 23. Jul, 2010 in Uncategorized
This dude must have been able to look into the future and had already seen the World Cup final between the Netherlands and Spain and realized that if Nigel de Jong can get away with a kung fu kick against Xabi Alonso at the highest level of professional sports, then he can do that , being an amateur, just as well
